Upper West Side Art Space Represents an Adjusting Retail Market

As the retail rental market continues to struggle, some landlords are finding creative ways to bounce back.

A 1,000 square-foot storefront at 445 Columbus Avenue is now being used as an art gallery and theater venue called North of History, run by the nonprofit New Vision. Gene Kaufman, the head of New Vision, said that the goal of the space is to better integrate the arts into the City, while using the unique concept to drive traffic and combat the difficult retail rental market.
